The Competition Master Plan is a multi-media Sport Psychology mental training program which prepares the fencer for competition from start to finish.

It has 3 components: 1. Mental Training Program – an audio guided visually enhanced mental training routine; 2. Master Plan Overview – a narrated PowerPoint which describes the theory of mental training and offers guidance in the use of the Mental Training audio-video program; 3. Master Plan Mini-Seminar – text versions of the Mental Training Program and the Master Plan Overview.  

 

About the Author:

Dr. John Heil

 

Dr. John Heil was the sports psychologist for the 2004 U.S. Men’s Epee Olympic Team and the 2000 and 1996 U. S. Women’s Foil Olympic Teams.  He is a clinical and sport psychologist, and longstanding sport psychology consultant to USA Fencing. He is editor of the Sport Science column in American Fencing Magazine and served as Chair of USA Fencing Sports Medicine & Science for over 15 years. He is a Lecturer at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and an Instructor at the Roanoke Police Academy. Dr. Heil is a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry, and is now serving as President of the American Psychological Association Division of Exercise & Sport Psychology.

 

Paul Soter

Maestro Paul Soter is Co-Head Coach of the Golden Gate Fencing Center in San Francisco.  He has worked as a fencing administrator, coach, armorer, and commentator throughout his 40+ years in fencing. Maestro Soter is a former U.S. National Champion and National Team member in epee fencing.  He was the first U.S. National Coach for Women’s Epee (1993-1996), and the U.S. National Coach for Men’s Epee (2001-2005).  He was the coach of the U.S. Men’s Epee team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.  He continues to coach fencers from the beginning through the international level.
